Description

Koa (Acacia) is indigenous to Hawai’i and one of the most valuable woods in the world! These trees grow high up in elevation and will reach up to 100 feet tall.

In ancient Hawai’i, Koa wood was harvested and reserved exclusively for the Ali’i (Royalty) and was used to craft sculpture, images of gods, personal containers, and canoes for Royalty.

The State of Hawai’i has issued restrictions on the harvesting of these trees. The State of Hawai’i has to pronounce the tree dead or have fallen naturally before it can be harvested.

Today, more than ever, Koa continues to be a widely recognized symbol of prestige. The most revered koa has a wavy grain pattern called “Curly.” Only 10% of all koa is curly.
